Quail Breeding Pen and Rack System

The latest improvement is the use of rubber coated wire. This wire is easier on the birds’ feet, allows the pens to withstand repeated cleaning with cage washers, power washers, or just a garden hose, and increases durability. Each section measures 10” x 24” and is adequate for up to 2 pair of Bobwhite or one cock and three hens. These pens have a large feed trough with a water trough on the back for easy filling and may be equipped with an automatic watering system. Correct slope of the floor permits eggs to roll out under feed trough for production of cleaner eggs with less damage and easier gathering. Intended for use with Bobwhite and Cortunix size birds. Galvanized steel section walls can be removed for colony breeding. Dimensions: 35” x 24” x 73”. Shipped with Pens assembled and stand knocked down. Dropping pans included. SHOWN WITH OPTIONAL WHEELS, ITEM #0319 (NOT INCLUDED).

Good system, not for suitable for outdoor/barn use

The style of this system is nice and a good concept. In reality it has some flaws. The food trough does cause eggs to get stuck and prevent them from fully rolling out. I have to still access eggs from the cages, and ultimately the eggs do still get dirty as they get hung up on the underside of the feeder. I have coturnix quail and even the medium size eggs fail to roll out of the cages, jumbo eggs would definitely not fit as the gap is far too small.

Another big caveat is that this system needs to be used in an entirely sealed and predator proof building, otherwise you will lose all your birds. Rats and weasels have no problem climbing this system to kill the birds from water or feeding trough. Definitely not suitable for someone who is starting out without an 100% sealed building or garage. I had to modify this cage and creat a enclosure to surround it using hardwear cloth. The shed I keep my quail in looked fine and predator proof. I had this system setup for months with no problems.

I ultimately rated this system a 3 star review as the egg roll out does not work very well at all even with small coturnix quail and is fairly expensive. If I had my time back I would have opted for a home made enclosure.
